About UsOur Perfect Example
NEARLY two thousand years ago the world was blessed with the personal presence of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. As the Deliverer of the human race, Christ not only left on record His crucifixion and death, but He also gave a perfect example for Christians to follow. Of Him it is written, "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him." Acts 10:38. Christ's life was a life of caring for others. In addition to teaching the Word of God to all with whom He came in contact, He provided healing and deliverance to every soul that was afflicted by sickness and sin. In this way Jesus combined the preaching of the gospel with charitable deeds and acts of healing. Thus our perfect Example endeavored to teach His followers that God is concerned with both the spiritual and physical needs of man. Over the years, although many have sought to deliver souls in peril through spiritual revivals, few have seen the great necessity of also concentrating on the healing of the mental and physical well-being of their fellow man. Some teach that the health of the body and mind is unnecessary for spiritual growth or development. However, time has proven that there is a very close relationship between the mind and the body; and since the understanding and acceptance of truth has to do with the mind, then the relationship between the mind, the body, and the spirit is a definite reality. Medical Missionary Evangelism AROUND the middle of the nineteenth century the third angel's message of Revelation 14:9-12 was understood. Along with it came the message of health reform. It was then that our Lord sought to restore the health aspect of the Christian's work. God wanted man to recognize that He is still interested in his mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Since then, more and more of God’s people have seen the need of becoming medical missionary evangelists like Jesus Christ. Says Inspiration: "Speak as He would speak, act as He would act. Constantly reveal the sweetness of His character. Reveal that wealth of love which underlies all His teachings and all His dealings with men. The humblest workers, in co-operation with Christ, may touch chords whose vibrations shall ring to the ends of the earth and make melody throughout eternal ages." MH 159. "I can see in the Lord's providence that the medical missionary work is to be a great entering wedge, whereby the diseased soul may be reached." CH 535. God's people are required to present a wholistic gospel to friends, relatives, and the needy in their communities. This is the true gospel--the gospel of love. It is, therefore, the Institute's desire to help all to appreciate the gospel of Christ which expresses itself in spiritual and physical healing. We desire everyone to remember that it is the Creator's will for all to "prosper and be in health, even as [our] soul prospereth" (3 John 2). Aims and Objectives THE true objective of The Advent Explorer is to bring honor and glory to God. To this end, we earnestly support all the divinely-ordained goals of God's remnant church. This we believe involves the advancement of every good principle. Thus, our aim is to promote God's wonderful truths, including health reform. It is our conviction that a theoretical knowledge of the Scriptures as well as a practical experience in Bible principles, including those pertaining to health, are essential for a well-rounded or wholistic lifestyle. Furthermore, we believe that Christ gave a very important commission to all true Christians: "To bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound." Isa. 61:1. We consider this to be a great responsibility, one that will necessitate the co-operation and support of all God's true sheep. Therefore we are determined to do our best, by God's grace, to aid in every way possible those who bear the burden of God's work at this time. We also uphold that the central pillar of all the wonderful truths that God has blessed His advent people with is the truth of "the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29), Jesus Christ our Lord. He is the key to salvation--the true balm of Gilead. We are told: "Upon many is a soul sickness which no earthly balm can reach nor physician heal. Pray for these souls, bring them to Jesus. Tell them that there is a balm in Gilead and a Physician there." COL 418. |
